What is Another Name for a Gazebo?
Çardak (gazebo) is also called a “camellia” or “pergola” in different regions and depending on its intended use. However, these words do not refer to exactly the same structure:
- Camellia: Usually a more enclosed and fixed structure; it is more protected against weather conditions such as wind and rain.
- Pergola: A more open and decorative structure; usually only the top part provides shade and it is decorated with plants.
Both types of structures are used in outdoor spaces for relaxation, socializing, or creating shaded areas. In short, “çardak” can be considered as the common denominator of these two structures.
